The Oscar de la Renta gown that was shown at bridal fashion week.
If Amal Clooney’s (née Alamuddin) has become a new source of sartorial fascination since she began her time in the Klieg light you’d know about the Stella McCartney pantsuit, the Giambattista Valli couture mini dress and the sweeping Alexander McQueen red number (bonus points if you spotted the Chanel silver boots). And if, like many we imagine, you’ve already entered the aforementioned designers into your search engine you can now add the Oscar de la Renta wedding dress to the shopping list. That’s the Bridal Fashion week!
In the designer’s most recent lineup for the autumn/ winter ’15 bridal collections, a near exact replica of Clooney’s custom-made lace appliqué gown was on show. The off-the-shoulder lace gown appeared as his closing dress, signing off a collection of eleven dresses based around similar fit and flare silhouettes.
Of her own dress Clooney “George and I wanted a wedding that was romantic and elegant, and I can’t imagine anyone more able than Oscar to capture this mood in a dress,” she says. “Meeting him made the design process all the more magical, as he is so warm and such a gentleman.” Oscar de la Renta worked with Clooney to design the dress. “Amal and I looked at a lot of evening dresses and wedding dresses together, and we discussed what she liked,” he said.
No word of the exact in-store date but with 12 metres of Chantilly lace and hand embroidered beading we’re guessing they’ll be in limited supply.
