Real Weddings at Waterford Castle
I have had the privilege of being part of a few wedding seasons at the Waterford Castle and I have fallen head over heels in love with this luxurious property. Easily one of the best wedding venues in Ireland, you simply have to be in-person at one of the real weddings at Waterford Castle to fully appreciate just how incredible this place is--- which is why I have put together a collection of my favourite memories of past wedding seasons at Waterford Castle!
Here is a quick look at some of the beautiful couples that I have had the pleasure of photographing in this one of a kind wedding venue in County Waterford.
Shea and Joe’s Wedding at Waterford Castle
Shea and Joe’s wedding was a dream wedding day at my favourite Waterford wedding venue. I had the honour of taking part in this special day at the charming Waterford Castle and it’s an experience I will never forget.
As we started the day, the lovely bride, Shea, got ready in front of the fireplace in the Presidental Suite of the Waterford Castle Hotel. The bride wore a gorgeous traditional magnolia white dress, while the groom shone brightly in a classic black and white wedding tux.
In the stately sitting room of the Waterford Castle Hotel, Joe unveiled his bride to say their "I do's" in this special, one of a kind space.
In the gorgeous castle setting, Shea and Joe shared their vows, took part in a Celtic hand-fasting ceremony, then lit the traditional wedding candle together as their loved ones looked on.
After the ceremony, Shea and Joe, along with their families, posed for their wedding photo shoot outside of the stately Waterford wedding venue. Wrapped in a beautiful ivory fur shawl and holding a floral bouquet in rich shades of violet, maroon, and olive green along with chic peacock feather, the bride was radiant next to her handsome groom as they posted throughout the amazing gardens outside of the Waterford Castle Hotel.
With their wedding photo album and wedding at Waterford Castle complete, Shea and Joe ended their dream day by cutting into the peacock feather and white rose wedding cake then dancing the night away!
Tove and Odd’s Waterford Wedding Venue
One of the Waterford Castle weddings to remember was Tove and Odd’s beautiful day at this one of a kind Irish wedding venue. The day started with the beautiful bride, Tove, preparing in the Presidential Suite at the Waterford Castle Hotel. With a breath-taking snow white dress with multiple tiers, the bride was truly glowing while the groom looked dapper in a classic black and white wedding tuxedo.
The couple tied the knot at this Waterford wedding venue’s ceremony space in front of the grand fireplace. After making it official, Tove and Odd headed outside with all of their guests to get a picture-perfect photo shoot at their dream Waterford wedding venue.
Back inside, the couple had a traditional local band at their wedding reception, complete with a fiddle, accordion, banjo, and all! In fact, Tove and Odd even brought an Irish dancer over to the Waterford Castle Hotel. This talented woman got all of the guests in celebration mode with her impressive skills!
After a lovely wedding at Waterford Castle and a delicious meal at the Waterford Castle Hotel, Tove and Odd cut into an incredibly stunning (and unique!) wedding cake that had been topped with twigs, roses, leaves, grapes, and apples!
With elegant spaces around every corner at the Waterford Castle Hotel that were just made for wedding photo albums along with endless Guinness on tap, Tove and Odd’s Waterford wedding was an unforgettable day!
Amy and Patrik at the Waterford Castle Hotel
Another lovely couple that I'll always remember from my wedding seasons at the Waterford Castle is Amy and Patrik. They opted for one of the wedding packages at Waterford Castle that made for a picture perfect day.
Amy and Patrik chose to tie the knot at St. John the Baptist Church in Crooke. The couple prepared for their big day at Waterford Castle Hotel before taking the 30-minute trip over to the ceremony venue to say "I do" in the timelessly beautiful St. John the Baptist Church venue.
The couple had a traditional ceremony with the wedding party in a chic black and white colour palette. After the ceremony and their photo shoot, the beautiful couple returned to carry on their wedding at Waterford Castle with over 100 of their closest family and friends.
Well outside of the standard wedding packages at Waterford Castle, the fun couple took part in the Finnish tradition of stealing the bride! Amy was “stolen” by the groomsmen, and Patrik had to answer questions in order to win her back!
After winning his bride back, the reception continued on at Waterford Castle Hotel. In the striking dining room area of my favourite Waterford wedding venue, Amy and Patrik shared a meal with their guests before cutting into their one of a kind rustic style wedding cake.
With all of the photo shoots, speeches, and memories made, Amy and Patrik danced the night away at the Waterford Castle Hotel.

Katie and Kunaal’s Wedding at Waterford Castle
In all of my wedding seasons at Waterford Castle, Katie and Kunaal had one of the most memorable weddings. In fact, this lovely couple had two beautiful wedding days! They started their whirlwind wedding weekend on Friday with a traditional Hindu ceremony on a Friday afternoon followed by a fun and relaxed BBQ dinner that night.
The colourful ceremony on Friday was breath-taking! Katie dazzled in a bejewelled ruby red dress with glittering gold accents while the Kunaal arrived in striking gold and royal blue wedding gear riding a beautiful white horse.
After making it official during their Friday Hindu ceremony, Katie and Kunaal had a lovely traditional Irish Catholic wedding at Waterford Castle.
In the picture perfect Waterford wedding venue, Katie traded her vibrant crimson dress for a beautiful magnolia white wedding dress. Meanwhile, Kunaal swapped his golden garb for a smart slate grey tuxedo for a lovely wedding ceremony at the church beside Waterford Castle Hotel, St. John the Baptist Church Crook Church in Passage East.
After saying "I do" one more time, Katie and Kunaal had a dreamy wedding photo shoot in the beautiful gardens outside of the Waterford Castle Hotel.
Amongst the most memorable and fun real weddings at Waterford Castle that I have been a part of as a photographer, Katie and Kunaal's big day was truly special. Bringing together two families and intermingling two cultures perfectly, the happy couple's wedding weekend was surely a dream come true!

Meanwhile, the groomsmen wow'ed in timeless black tuxes and old-school cool slate grey top hats.
The lovely couple departed Waterford Castle Hotel for the St. John the Baptist Church Crook Church in Passage East, Waterford. Ashleigh and Connan tied in this gorgeous church before hopping into their vintage silver ride to return to the Waterford Castle Hotel to continue on with their dream day.
Of course, my favourite part of every one of the Waterford Castle Weddings is utilising the picture-perfect space outside of the castle. After capturing lovely shots of Ashleigh and Connan, along with their family wedding party, in the breathtakingly beautiful gardens outside of the Waterford wedding venue, we returned to the venue so the happy couple could get their photos have drawn (a very fun addition to a traditional wedding photo album!)
With the ultimate of wedding packages at Waterford Castle, Ashleigh and Connan cut their stunning six-tier wedding cake before stepping outside for an epic firework display in the gardens of the Waterford Castle Hotel.

Siocha and Greg’s Wedding at Waterford Castle
As a wedding photographer in Dublin, I always jump at the chance to travel around the island to see some of the most impressive wedding venues in the country. Of course, a wedding at the Waterford Castle is always a special treat for me, so I was honoured when Siocha and Greg asked me to be a part of their big day.Waterford castle weddings are just so magical! There are countless spaces that offer perfect photo ops, so it really is a wedding photographer's dream come true.
Siocha and Greg made their wedding at Waterford Castle special by adding their own touches at every turn. They utilised some of my fave options from the wedding packages at Waterford Castle and created an unforgettable day.
They tied the knot at Waterford Castle Hotel with a small and intimate wedding party. Siocha wore a stunning high fashion style while Greg looked every bit the dapper groom in his bowtie with a classic black and white look. They walked down the aisle to beautiful bagpipe music before their traditional wedding ceremony and the lighting of the candles.
After making it official, Siocha and Greg brought their guests to the breath-taking dining room at the Waterford wedding venue. The guests entered into the magical sounds of a harp player before sitting down to a wonderful meal and champagne to wish "cheers" to the happy couple.
Of course, one of the highlights of every big day at the Waterford wedding venue, we travelled outside for a wedding photo shoot in this perfect location.
Stephanie and John’s Day at Waterford Wedding Venue
Last but certainly not least, one of the most beautiful weddings I have seen at Waterford castle weddings was the big day for Stephanie and John. This lovely couple made it official at one of the most excellent wedding venues in Ireland. With a pretty purple theme, the bridal party wore rich shades of plum, lavender, and heather grey, while the bride shone in a snow white dress. Meanwhile, the men looked dapper in their classic grey tuxes, and the officiant flaunted his Gaelic fashion prowess in emerald green kilts.
One great thing about wedding packages with the Waterford Castle is that they offer an on-site space for the ceremony. While some couples opt to tie the knot at the nearby church then have their reception in the Waterford wedding venue, there is also an option to have a wedding at Waterford Castle.
Stephanie and John utilised the lovely ceremony space within the Waterford castle hotel to say their "I do's," then stepped outside to set the picture-perfect scene for wedding photos of the whole family and wedding party in front of this gorgeous castle. Afterwards, we took the wedding shots of the bride and groom in the stately garden.
The couple went back inside after their photo shoot to enjoy a lovely meal in the dining room of the Waterford castle hotel then lounged in front of the fireplace.
After a whirlwind wedding at Waterford Castle, Stephanie and John, along with all of their nearest and dearest, danced the night away on the gorgeous dance floor of the Waterford castle hotel.

The History
With a strategic location just outside of Ireland's oldest city, Waterford City in southern Ireland, the Waterford Castle property has had a rich and varied history through the centuries. The island began as a monk settlement way back in the sixth century before being taken over by Vikings for the entirety of the ninth, tenth, and eleventh centuries. After the Norman Invasion of the island of Ireland in 1170, Maurice Fitzgerald and his decedents ruled from the historic Waterford castle for nearly a century. By the time the fifteenth century rolled around, however, this magical castle had fallen into such terrible disrepair that it was uninhabitable. Finally, in the late nineteenth century, though, a Fitzgerald heir returned to bring the castle back to its former glory. After nearly a century in the hands of the Fitzgerald family, in 1958, the Waterford Castle came into private ownership, which opens the way for it to be used by the public (and for beautiful weddings!)
In March 2015, Waterford Castle Hotel was purchased by the current owners who have since done an extensive refurbishment of the entirety of the property. Breathing new life into the island, they have restored the handsome 16th-century castle hotel, 45 self-catering lodges, and the King's Channel Clubhouse to an incredible state. This four-star property is now amongst the premier wedding venues in Ireland and more planned changes, including the addition of a spa, are underway!
